Customer Security – ADSL Router Security Basics

Recently, we updated the functionality of our Network Firewall to increase the default protection provided to customers for their home and business networks.

Part of the reason behind making these changes, was to increase the security for customer ADSL routers. Even with this increased security, there are still some additional basic techniques that you can use to increase and maintain the security of your ADSL router and home or business network. Here’s some suggestions :

The NBN and structural separation – not just Telstra?

(This opinion piece is based on a post that was first published on the Business Spectator web site)

Its an interesting week for the National Broadband Network, with the release of the novel-length report into its implementation that the Australian Government commissioned and then sat on for two months before letting the rest of us see it.

What matters isn’t so much this report, it is the government policy that gets determined as a result of it. That policy, in turn, is a precursor to any real action (and in this context, the work happening to date in Tasmania is simply the skirmish being conducted to limber up for the real battle).

DNSSEC and what it means to you

If you follow the technology press, you might have seen some recent articles about something called DNSSEC, and its impending introduction.

The articles have mostly been about technical problems which DNSSEC might uncover, but have generally been light on the subject of what, exactly, DNSSEC actually is. (more…)
