242 extra ADSL2+ exchanges coming soon

As you may be aware, the acquisition of Internode by iiNet Limited was announced in December 2011. The transfer of ownership was finalised today, and both Internode and iiNet staff are hard at work integrating our various systems, software, and infrastructure.

As previously mentioned by Simon Hackett, one of the first and most obvious benefits will be the merging of the iiNet and Internode ADSL2+ DSLAM networks. (more…)

Zappos.com User Details Exposed

Recently the very popular Zappos.com site (owned by Amazon) experienced a major breach of their systems resulting in 24 million user details and related data being compromised.

Zappos have advised that customer’s name, email address, billing and shipping address, the last four digits of their credit card number and a “cryptographically scrambled” copy of the customer website password has been stolen.
Zappos have expired all passwords and had temporarily blocked non-US traffic customers whilst internal investigations were performed.

If you have used the Zappos.com site in the past, please ensure you change your password immediately wherever the same credentials have been used on other sites or services. (more…)

Q & A on the Internode iiNet transaction announcement

This blog post is a collection of answers (an FAQ) that I’ve written on whirlpool in response to questions asked about it there.

I’m placing some of those answers here because they can easily be lost in the succession of pages there, and some of them seem to be asked repeatedly.

Hence putting them here is an exercise in trying to make them easier to find – and reducing that repetition somewhat!

I’ll add to this post as necessary if future questions of importance turn up that make sense to add into this blog post.
