Customer Security – ADSL Router Security Basics

Recently, we updated the functionality of our Network Firewall to increase the default protection provided to customers for their home and business networks.

Part of the reason behind making these changes, was to increase the security for customer ADSL routers. Even with this increased security, there are still some additional basic techniques that you can use to increase and maintain the security of your ADSL router and home or business network. Here’s some suggestions :

Changes to taking credit card payments over the phone

If you pay your bill over the phone with a credit card, or if you’d like to do so, today you will notice there’s a different voice asking for your payment details. Don’t panic – this is just part of a change we’ve made to make processing credit card payments over the phone even safer than before.

Customer Security – The Network Firewall

Hi, I’m Derek, Internode’s Security Manager.

My role is to be the classic black hatter… you know, the “what if” bloke.  So I get to hunt down and fix any risks or weaknesses that are inherent in any large professional IT shop.  A really important part of my job is that I also get to think about the security risks facing Internode’s customers as well as the company,  and I am a vocal advocate of safe computing…  I get to fix my parent’s PC too.  <sigh> :)

So, onto Internode’s new and improved Network Firewall.  Last week was a pretty good week for me, the improved Network Firewall was announced to our customers, at the same time we also released a new Customer Security support page where we will be putting up information about key security issues and concerns in the near future.
