Factors affecting speeds on the NBN™

In order to help Australians make informed choices when it comes to the NBN™, Internode is amongst the first Internet Service Providers to follow recommendations from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to move away from unclear language such as “up to” when describing NBN™ speeds.

We now clearly state the speed ranges customers should experience on each NBN™ speed tier as follows:

  • Bronze: Between 5 – 12Mbps download, 1Mbps upload.
  • Silver: Between 5 – 25Mbps download, 1 – 5Mbps upload.
  • Gold: Between 12 – 50Mbps download, 1 – 20Mbps upload.
  • Platinum: Between 12 – 100Mbps downloads, 1 – 40Mbps upload.

These ranges are based on information supplied by our wholesaler, NBNCo. While Internode has always endeavoured to provide the best experience to our customers this can be challenging as NBNCo itself does not guarantee minimum speeds at a wholesale level.

242 extra ADSL2+ exchanges coming soon

As you may be aware, the acquisition of Internode by iiNet Limited was announced in December 2011. The transfer of ownership was finalised today, and both Internode and iiNet staff are hard at work integrating our various systems, software, and infrastructure.

As previously mentioned by Simon Hackett, one of the first and most obvious benefits will be the merging of the iiNet and Internode ADSL2+ DSLAM networks. (more…)
